EMG TESTING FOR BETTER COURSE OF TREATMENT

Electromyography (EMG) is a procedure that uses an instrument called an electromyograph to convert the electrical activity from skeletal muscles into a visual account or sound. The test diagnoses neuromuscular abnormalities and is used during biofeedback training. At Hope Neurological & Medical Services, we provide an EMG test to take a closer look at the issue you might be having under your skin that is not visibly seen.

PROCESS OF EMG TEST

Small, thin needles are placed in the muscle during an EMG to record the electrical activity. When the needles are inserted, you may feel some pain and discomfort. The doctor will ask you to relax the muscle and tense it slightly. The doctor will listen and watch a TV-like screen broadcasting electrical signals. You can also hear the signal sounds as you move a muscle. You may experience some soreness and bruising when the needles are removed, but this will disappear in a few days. There are no long-term side effects. On the day of the test, wear lose clothing, do not put any lotions or creams on the area to be tested, and do not wear any jewelry. Usually, you can get the results on the same day as the test.
