TESTING FOR ABNORMALITIES OF THE BRAIN

At Hope Neurological & Medical Services, we use state-of-the-art technology to detect brain injuries, scarring, bleeding, and more. It is important to identify these issues to provide a course of treatment that helps reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain. For more information, call us at (404) 631-6156.

REGULAR ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM (EEG)

A typical EEG is used to measure electrical brain activity. The test involves placing electrodes along a patient’s scalp to detect electrical stimuli. It is an entirely noninvasive procedure. We use EEG results to help diagnose various conditions, ranging from sleep disorders to general brain dysfunction (encephalopathy). It is commonly used to assess brain damage following trauma, such as a physical impact or major illness.

AMBULATORY REGULAR ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM (EEG)

We perform an Ambulatory EEG to test patients for epilepsy. Since seizures can be a symptom of many different conditions, they alone are not sufficient for diagnosing epilepsy. This test records brain activity throughout the day to identify any signs of epilepsy.

Because it is difficult to predict when a seizure will occur, an Ambulatory EEG is designed to be taken home with the patient. This allows you to continue your daily routine for a few days while the small device records the necessary measurements. After reviewing the results, we can determine whether the seizures are indicative of epilepsy.
