TESTING FOR ABNORMALITIES OF THE BRAIN

At Hope Neurological & Medical Services we use state-of-the-art technology to see what injuries, scarring, bleeding, and more might happen to your brain. It is important to know what is happening to provide a course of treatment that will help reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain. For more information, call us at (404) 631-6156.

REGULAR ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM (EEG)

A typical EEG is used to measure electrical brain activity. The test involves placing electrodes along a patient’s scalp to detect the appropriate stimulus. It is an entirely noninvasive test. We use results from an EEG to help diagnose many different conditions. These range from sleep disorders to general discord and dysfunction in brain activity (encephalopathy). It is commonly used to test for brain damage after suffering from relevant trauma, such as a physical impact or major illness.

REGULAR ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM (EEG)

We perform an Ambulatory EEG to test patients for epilepsy. Since seizures can be a symptom of many different conditions, they alone are not enough to warrant a diagnosis of epilepsy. This test records brain activity throughout the day for any signs of epilepsy.

Since it is difficult to predict when a seizure will occur, an Ambulatory EEG is designed to go home with the patient. This way, you can continue your daily routine for a few days while the small device takes the appropriate measurements. After reviewing the results, we can discuss whether or not the seizures are a symptom of epilepsy.
