At Hope Neurological & Medical Services, we have a dedicated physical therapy room to continue your care. During your first therapy session, your physical therapist (PT) will examine and assess your needs. They will ask about your pain or other symptoms, your ability to move or perform everyday tasks, your sleep patterns, and your medical history. The objective is to determine a diagnosis of your condition, understand the underlying causes or impairments, and develop a plan of care to address each issue.
The PT will administer tests to measure the following:
How well can you move around, reach, bend, or grasp
How well do you walk or climb steps
Your heartbeat or rhythm while active
Your posture or balance
After the assessment, they will work with you to create a treatment plan. This plan will include your goals—such as improving your function and feeling better—as well as exercises or other treatments to help you achieve them.
The time it takes to reach these goals may vary from person to person. You may have more or fewer sessions than others, depending on your specific needs.
YOUR TREATMENTS MIGHT INCLUDE:
Traditional approaches to treating pain involve an injection of substances called “steroids,” which can alleviate pain effectively but with potential side effects like:
Exercises or stretches guided by your therapist
Massage, heat, or cold therapy, warm water therapy, or ultrasound to ease muscle pain or spasms
Rehabilitation to help you learn to use an artificial limb
Practice with devices that assist with movement or balance, such as a cane or walker
Your therapist will monitor your progress and adjust your treatments as necessary. It’s important to continue doing the exercises your therapist teaches you at home between sessions. This will help you stay on track and improve your fitness.
